Homophones 1

A skill lesson giving students opportunity to determine what word should be used instead of the misused homophone. It ends with students determining which homophone best completes cloze sentences.

This lesson includes a cloze activity where students will choose which homophone belongs in each blank. In order for them to do this successfully they will also need to comprehend the meaning of each sentence including the vocabulary included.

Homophones 3

A nonfiction lesson about guide dogs giving students opportunity to determine which homophone best finishes each sentence. Each of the homophones is listed together and the student must decide which one is appropriate. This is more challenging than the first homophone lesson.

Homophones 4

This lesson is full of homophones that are misused. Students will need to first find all of the words that are being used wrong and then decide which homophone would be correct. Each slide is complete with a number hint that tells the number of misused homophones that need to be found.

Idioms

This lesson is a fictional story about “feet” that contains multiple idioms. This lesson was designed to do as a whole class activity that is teacher directed. Read the story together and discuss each slide checking for comprehension before clicking to the next slide. After the story each of the idioms will reappear asking students to choose from the multiple-choice format the best meaning of each idiom. Note: Many of the multiple-choice answers are humorous. Kids may get a little “goofy”. Have fun!

Main Idea

This lesson has three short fictional stories to be read together as a group. After each story there are multiple-choice answers to decide the main idea of each story. Students can signal their answer using the number of the answer they believe to be correct.

Nouns

This lesson’s focus is to identify nouns within a short fictional story. It begins with a definition of both proper and common nouns and a few examples of each. Throughout the story, nouns are typed in italics. The teacher needs to discuss whether each noun is proper or common. The last slide is a printable worksheet to provide further practice.

Vocabulary

This lesson is a skill lesson where “sister” asks “brother” if he can find some pairs. The dialogue is repeated often to reinforce recognition of vocabulary words. Students are also asked to categorize each item. Clothes or not clothes? Note: Clothes - defined as cloth that is worn. Shoes are not in this category.
